When it comes to sex, not all positions are created equal. So, which ones do women like? The folks at Skyn Condoms did some research to find out.
They surveyed men and women about their favourite sexual position and the ones they wanted to try. The results were surprising!
Face to Face
As with most things, sex positions aren’t one-size-fits-all. But it’s important for both partners to find the position that makes them happy and get those orgasms. “The key to having a good experience is finding a position that stimulates you both,” says Jordan Rullo, a certified sex therapist with health app Flo. “I recommend that women try a face-to-face position to stimulate the clitoris and erogenous zone.”
According to DrEd, an online doctor database, both men and women prefer sex positions that give them direct clitoral stimulation. In addition, it also helps with intimacy during lovemaking.
A recent survey conducted by DrEd asked 2,000 people in the U.S, the UK and Europe about their favorite sex position and those they wanted to try out. The top two favorite positions for both genders were table-top sex and kneeling wheelbarrow. But when it comes to trying out new positions, men were more adventurous than women. Men ranked anal as their second-most desired position, while spooning came in last.
If you’re interested in trying a new position, McDevitt recommends that you self-stimulate in front of your partner to show them what you like. You can also ask them directly what their preferred sex position is. Just remember that it takes courage to express yourself. But, “like most things that end up being worthwhile,” she says, it’s worth the effort in the long run.
Missionary
When it comes to the bedroom, everyone has a favorite sex position. And while some people might sneer at the good old-fashioned missionary (which involves a woman lying on her back, with her legs out in an “L” shape), new research suggests it might be the best position for achieving orgasm for women.
Researchers analyzed five sex positions and tested blood flow to the female clitoris before and after sex in each one. They found that the missionary position was the most effective for stimulating the clitoris and delivering orgasm. The study was published in the journal Sexologies and carried out by gynecologists from private clinic New H Medical.
While the missionary position is a great position to try, there are plenty of other sexual positions that can add to the thrill of penetration and clitoral stimulation. The butterfly position, for instance, is similar to missionary but with a fun twist. “This is a fantastic position for deep penetration, as it stimulates both the cervical and clitoral erogenous zones,” says Moore.
Another great option is the coital alignment technique. Have your partner lie in missionary position and lift her ankles back behind her head for a more subtle variation on the classic missionary. This enables him to get in deep and hits the G-spot from a new angle without adding strain on her knees or back.
Doggy Style
The doggy style sex position involves the receiving partner crouched down on all fours while her partner enters her from behind. It’s a great position for vaginal or anal sex, and it’s particularly good for arousal and penetration. The giving partner can change the angle of entry by angling her head back or forward. This enables her to feel the giving partner’s penis as well as his hand. She can also feel the rubbing of her clit. For added pleasure, she can ask the giving partner to finger her clit or to lick her cock. He can also spank her from behind, and he can pull on her hair while riding her.
Interestingly, the doggy-style position was a top pick for women in the 2021 SKYN Sex & Intimacy Survey. It was followed by cowgirl, missionary, and 69. Despite its many benefits, the doggy-style position may not be as hot as other sex positions that require face-to-face contact or more movement.
To spice things up, the giver can vary the intensity of his thrusting by varying the depth and pressure of each stroke. She can also push back against him with each thrust. If she finds that the doggy-style position allows for too much penetration, she can ask her partner to hold his knees closer together or arch his back upwards to restrict the force of his thrusts. It’s important that both partners are ready for a new sexual position before trying it. For this reason, experts recommend ample foreplay before attempting the position.
Queening
Queening, like its royal nickname suggests, is a sex position in which the woman sits on (or straddles) her partner’s face for oral sex. The act stimulates the clitoris and other erogenous zones and is one of the most satisfying for both partners. It’s also one of the most effective methods for avoiding pregnancy and is used by women of all social classes, explains former escort Samantha X.
Typically, the woman rubs and presses her genitalia and anus against her lover’s tongue, lips, and nose for stimulation. According to Urban Dictionary — the go-to source for all things slang — this sex position is as old as time, with images of it dating back to ancient Egypt and also found in Chinese, Indian, Japanese, medieval European and Victorian cultures.
While anyone can pop a face-sitting squat, this position is most often performed by femmes, and it’s considered to be the dominant partner in BDSM relationships, sexologist Tanya Bass explains. The face-sitter can sit gently on their partner or squat, or they can place their knees across the face of their lover and straddle them with their thighs. Some people even have queening chairs which make it easy to assume this position without having to strain or put too much weight on their lover’s head, potentially restricting their breathing.
