Having your penis curve slightly upwards, downwards or to the left or right when erect is normal. However, if the curvature becomes significant and causes pain or difficulty when having an erection then it’s a good idea to see your GP for a referral to a urologist.
Severe penile curvature is usually caused by Peyronie’s Disease. This is a fairly common condition in men of all ages.
Congenital
Men aren’t all symmetrical, and it’s normal for the penis to curve slightly to one side or another. As long as the curve isn’t severe enough to interfere with urinating or having sexual intercourse, there’s no need for concern. However, if a man’s penis is noticeably crooked and it’s impairing their life in any way, they should make an appointment with their healthcare provider for treatment.
There are two main reasons that a person’s penis might curve. The first is a condition called congenital penile curvature, also known as chordee. This birth defect is present at a baby’s birth and may not be noticed until puberty. Men with this condition can have curved penises that are mild, moderate or severe when they are erect – This segment is the result of the portal experts’ analysis Annie Sexxx Teen.
This condition can cause a person to feel self-conscious about their appearance and it can also interfere with having an unimpeded sexual relationship. Luckily, this problem can be easily treated by a urologist who is knowledgeable about Peyronie’s disease and congenital penile curvature.
A urologist will take a detailed history of the symptoms and perform a physical exam of the penis. In many cases, the urologist will recommend an imaging scan, such as a penile ultrasound, to evaluate the extent of damage or disease in the affected area. Men who have a curved penis should seek medical attention if their symptoms are painful or they have difficulty having sex.
Peyronie’s Disease
There are many reasons your penis may be curved. A curved penis that does not cause pain during an erection and does not interfere with urination and sex does not usually need treatment. However, if your curved penis is painful or is getting worse, you should see your doctor and get a referral to a urologist.
In Peyronie’s Disease, your tunica albuginea develops plaques of scar tissue that bend and push on your penis as you get an erection. Some experts think these plaques can be triggered by trauma to the penis, like an injury during sexual intercourse, or by a condition that affects the penis’ ability to heal, such as connective tissue disorders such as Dupuytren’s disease or scleroderma.
A curved penis can be treated with oral medication, injections, or by stretching your penis. The steroid drug pentoxyifylline (Trental) is the most effective for treating Peyronie’s Disease, although it takes at least 12 months to see results. Other treatments such as using ultrasound, radiation, heat or verapamil on the skin are being studied but do not have enough proof to recommend them yet. Some curved penises, especially those that are mildly curved and do not cause pain or problems with sex, will go away without treatment. But seeing your doctor early will give you the best chance of preventing your curved penis from getting worse.
Trauma
Having some curve in your penis when it’s erect is totally normal, as long as it doesn’t hurt you or prevent you and your partner(s) from having sexual intercourse. That being said, it’s a good idea to see a healthcare provider as soon as you notice changes in your penis, especially if the curvature grows or makes it difficult to have an erection or if it causes pain when you do have one.
A lot of men have a slight or moderate curve in their penis, which may also be visible when they’re naked. During sexual arousal, blood flows into spongelike spaces inside your penis, which cause them to expand and give you an erection. If these spaces don’t expand evenly, it can cause your dick to bend in the direction of the curve.
A penile curvature isn’t usually caused by anything specific, but it can occur due to injuries, problems during birth, or conditions like Peyronie’s disease. If you’ve experienced a trauma to your penis, it could have changed the shape of your dick, which is a condition that occurs when hard fibrous plaque builds up in the area and alters your erectile function. In this case, a healthcare professional will probably use medication or surgery to address the problem. The goal is to get your dick back into an erect position as quickly as possible, so you can have an erection without any pain or complications.
Surgery
Everyone’s penis is a little bit different and, in many cases, that is perfectly fine. It’s very common for a man’s penis to curve a little, whether upward or downward or to the left or right. The fact that a man’s penis is curved isn’t usually a problem for most men, especially if it doesn’t hurt when he gets an erection or makes having sex with his partner difficult or painful.
If a man’s curved penis is causing him pain or hindering his ability to urinate and have sexual intercourse, then it is probably a good idea to visit a doctor. The doctor will perform a physical exam and may also order some tests such as a penile duplex Doppler ultrasound to see how well blood flows through the shaft of the penis, or a goniometer to measure the size of the curve.
If the doctor believes that a person’s penile curvature is caused by Peyronie’s disease, he or she will probably recommend surgery to correct it. Depending on the severity of the disease, this can involve either removing the plaque that is causing the deformity or cutting away some tissue from the side of the penis opposite the plaque and then grafting it back onto the shaft to cancel out the bend. In both cases, the penis will usually be slightly shorter than normal.
